Elizabeth Saveri is a Los Angeles-based painter whose work is influenced by the film industry. Born in San Francisco, Saveri attended Wesleyan University in 1987 and received her BFA and MFA from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, in 1990 and 1995, respectively. Saveri’s early work includes intimate, postcard-sized paintings that explore daily experiences in quotidian spaces, such as city streets and empty rooms. Incorporating filmic devices, such as blurring and close-ups, these paintings evoke narratives and movement through space. Later works include California landscapes rendered on mass-produced bread clips. The tiny paintings, which are typically exhibited in clusters, underscore the relationship between consumption and the depletion of the world’s natural resources.
