Bartolozzi was a student of Giovanni Domenico Ferretti (Italian painter, 1692-1768) and Ignazio Enrico Hugford (Italian painter, printmaker, and author, 1703-1778). He was a partner of Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727-1785, active in England), and worked for King George III in Great Britain. He was the teacher of many artists, including Conrad Martin Metz (German painter and engraver, 1749-1827), Gregório Francisco de  Queiroz (Portuguese engraver, 1768-1845), and C. Taylor (English printmaker and portraitist, 1756-1823)
