Félix Bracquemond

Félix Bracquemond joined a commercial lithographic studio at age 15 to help support his mother and four siblings. There, he met Joseph Guichard, a pupil of Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Eugene Delacroix, who encouraged him to learn etching. Bracquemond obtained a copy of Diderot's "Encyclopedia" and taught himself. This independent spirit carried him through his whole career; he befriended many artists and organized many groups, but he never associated himself with any one school of art.
