(Marseille, France, February 26, 1808 - February 10, 1879, Valmondois, France)

Honor≥ Daumier was a brilliant political and social caricaturist. Born in Marseille, France on February 26, 1808, he moved with his family to Paris in 1816. He studied drawing, first with Alexandre Lenoir, then at the Acad≥mie Suisse. He also worked as an assistant to the lithographer Z≥pherin Balliard. Lenoir's portrait collection may have inspired Daumier's first caricatures, published in the newspaper 'La Silouette' in 1830.
