Male figure seated and facing the viewer's right. He wears a broad-brimmed hat. He has long sleeves and has a bag or pouch on his right hip.

Marks
On recto: "GURKO / SOLDIER" handwritten in graphite in bottom left corner. "ZORNES / IN / INDIA" handwritten in graphite to right of the previous inscription.
On verso: "Milford Zornes N. A" signed in graphite a few inches below top edge.

Dimensions
Sight: 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 (this will no longer be relevant when we free the work from the acidic matte)
