Commentary
Arakan Front, Burma: Indians from a front-line village take shelter in a slit trench during a battle in the Buthidaung-Maungdaw area, as Japanese troops send mortar fire overhead in reply to British guns barking nearby. In Northern Burma, Brigadier General Frank Merrill’s marauders have seized Shaduzup, cutting off the retreat of Japanese troops being pushed southward, March 1944.
