Commentary
Kirk Files Motions: A stern-faced Florida Governor Claude Kirk arrives at Federal Court in New Orleans. He has motions in hand urging the court to block the ordered desegregation plan for Manatee County schools. Earlier, Kirk assumed control of that school system to block the order. He gave up that effort on Monday, when he was ordered to pay a $10,000-a-day fine unless he relented in blocking desegregation.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
