Commentary
Klansman In Custody: Devours Nix is escorted by Federal agents after his arrest on Civil Rights charges stemming from the slaying of black leader Vernon Ferdinand Dahmer, Sr. The FBI identified Nix as an investigator for the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Vernon Ferdinand Dahmer, Sr. (1908– 1966) was a leader with the Civil Rights Movement and president of the Forrest County chapter of the NAACP in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He was murdered by the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan for his work on recruiting blacks to vote.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
