Commentary
Judge to Rule on Wiretaps: Black Panther David Hilliard leaves the Federal Building in San Francisco today. U.S. District Court Judge William P. Gray said he would have to resolve the legality of the Attorney General's wiretap before Hillard's trial on charges of threatening President Nixon's life can begin. Hilliard's attorneys and lawyers for the Justice Department argued whether the government illegally made wiretaps of Hilliard's telephone conversations. Hilliard was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly telling a 1969 anti-war rally: "We will kill President Nixon."
