Commentary
The early prints of the Tauromaquia present stages in the historical development of the bullfight. For imagery and titles, Goya relied heavily upon a brief history written by poet Don Nicolas Fernandez de Moratin and published in Madrid in 1777. Here, Goya shows early Spaniards, dressed in furs, attacking a bull in the wild.
