Commentary
Goya depicts the violence of early bullfighting in this scene set in a simple landscape. The strong diagonals of the pikes held by the lunging figures focus attention on the bull. Goya's adept rendering of taurine anatomy, based on personal observation, is far more accurate than that seen in popular prints of the time.
