Commentary
This image records the often chaotic and lethal drama of the corrida. A single bull has wounded several horses and men, throwing all into confusion. The masterfully resolved composition remains legible despite the number of figures, in part by viture of the artist's adapt contrast of highlighted and deeply shadowed areas. The writhing of the gored horse and the blood flowing from the other are suggested by subtle incisions in the plate.
