Commentary
Goya did not romanticize the often horrifying events of the bullring but showed them in grim detail. Here he documents a common accident--a picador, fallen from his horse, is trapped under a charging bull. Unlike contemporary popular bullflight prints, which tended to focus on victory over the bull, Goya's confront the dangerous, and often tragic, realities of the ritual.
