Native leather, rawhide, glass beads, porcupine quills, and paint

Plains pipe bags were principally used by men, while decorated bags were originally made to be used only on ceremonial occasions. The smoke emerging from the pip, rather than the act of smoking, was the essential part of the ritual. The smoke was usually blown to the four corners or passed around among a circle of men. On the Plains, the Crow were the leading cultivators of tobacco, an important trade good, and they developed elaborate ceremonies centered around its cultivation.
