Soft cylindrical bag with concave base. Twined construction, with a leather strip on the top edge Decorated with birds, humans, and quadrupeds in brown on buff. Intermontane region.
Materials
Indian hemp, cornhusk, string, and leather
Commentary
The figurative designs on this bag are similar to those found in rock pictographs and wood carving of the Columbia River. Known as "Sally bags," they were used to carry and to store food, as well as to contain personal belongings.
