Commentary
The traditional northern and central Plains warrior shirt has been recreated in this 20th century example which uses commercially tanned leather and dyed horsehair. The elaborate patterning of the beadwork contrasts with the typical geometic simplicity of shirts of the older style. Shirts of this type are still worn by Plains and Plateau men for special occasions. -from the Native American Art from the Permanent Collection catalog, 1979
