Commentary
Plains containers, especially envelope-like bags called parfleches, were decorated with paint even after glass beads were introduced as ornamentation. The style of painted decoration was predominantly geometric and abstract. The way in which the border was integrated into the design was important. In this style it was usually the women who were the painters. Cheyenne geometric painting is characterized by open forms and translucent color produced from commercial pigment covered with glue sizing.
