Commentary
The fine fringe and sparse beadwork, traditionaly in Southern Plains garments, are evident in this dress. Shells were a material prized long before the introduction of glass beads, and their use continued. During the 1930s, Southern Plains artists preferred "all-white" clothing to traditional painted hide garments. -from the Native American Art from the Permanent Collection catalog, 1979
