Commentary
Flattened, rounded rectangular bottle which narrows toward the base. Carved from sandalwood; specifically, Chan Leung, a high grade variety with a more lasting odor. Bottle is very dark, with bas-relief over 1 mm deep. Includes a bell-shaped, carved wood top. Obverse: a man with a hat seated at a table, with a student standing beside the table. Reverse: a man with a pen and scroll, with the head of another man visible at left. Bamboo is carved on one side, and there are trees in the background on both sides.
