Commentary
The Booklyn Bridge site seen from the roof of the Beekman Hospital. Gold Street is in the foreground, and Beekman Street is on the right. The area was known as the leather district since the Civil War. At 72 Gold Street can be seen the offices of the New York City Department of Urban Renewal, which had to be moved when the building was torn down. Gars Restaurant, at the corner of Beekman Street, dated from 1827.
