Shifts to Civil Rights Job: David Rusk, son of the Secretary of State, poses today with Walter Lewis, Deputy Director of the Washington Urban League. The 22-year-old Rusk gave up plans to return to the University of California for post graduate studies in order to take a job as assistant to the League's executive director. He said the Civil Rights March on Washington last month shifted his academic study sights and possibly those of his career, Washington DC.

Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
