Commentary
Voting Rights Marchers Begin Alabama to Washington Journey: Marchers began the first leg of the 750-mile trip from predominately-black Tuskegee. The Reverend Joseph Lowery, president of the Atlanta-based Southern Christian Leadership Conference, said the five-state journey will end in Washington in June "in time for the Senate vote on the Voting Rights Act". The 1965 Voting Rights Act, which struck down many voting barriers for blacks, is under review by Congress. It could be changed or terminated.
