Beads on leather
x 5 1/2 in. ( x 14 cm)
glass beads without backing and leather
Photographed by R.K. Liu for "The Bead Journal," 11/15/76.
"This beadwork is the closest in the collection to a true peyote stitch (Which is worked in the round.) This piece was worked flat. It was started by a 2-bead blanket stitch border around a piece of buckskin, then the modified peyote stitch was worked back through the top bead and from side to side, finishing with single loop fringe using the tail end of the sewing thread."
Traditional technique for a non-traditional function (R. Conn).
