Flat, elongated triangular bag of buckskin with flap closing and thong handle. Light blue beaded edging on flap. One side with blue and white irregular rectangles and triangles.

Commentary
Beaded knife sheaths were common among Native Americans. This Apache case might appear to hold a large knife but in actuality, a blade cannot be inserted beyond a couple of inches. The flap secured the knife in the case. Apache beadworkers employed the lane or lazy stitch technique in decorating accessories such as pouches, sheaths, and hats. Linear patterning with alternating colors, as seen here, was a frequenly used design by Apache artists.
