Rectangular box with close-fitting removable cover. Soft hide handles on either side. Cover has basketry handle. Faded red, green, and brown diamonds on buff.

sumac, willow stem, anline dye and leather

Commentary
Large hampers, like this, were not traditonal; this one may have been made specially for a particular patron. The use of analine dyes for simple geometric designs occurs frequently in Jicarilla basketry.
