Split cedar root, bear grass, and willow bark

In imbrication, a technique used only in NW, a strip of material is laid over the coil, then doubled back on itself and finally brought over the warp.

Klikitat basketry is coiled, using splints for the foundation coil and the imbrication technique for ornamentation. The baskets retained this traditional format even when made for sale to tourists and collectors. The design on this basket, know as "foot" or "grill," is frequently used on Klikitat basketry and basketry from other groups in the Intermontane and California regions.
