Duck effigy jar with a flattened base and a loop handle attached to the neck and body. Kayenta black on white ware. Tusayan black ware and white ware. Wide band of curled scrolls on black.

Commentary
In the Kayenta area of northern Arizona and Southern Utah, vessels were often painted in a unique negative style. In negative painting, the lighter color (in this case the white slip) carries the design, while the background is formed by darker painting. Many of these vessels have net-like motifs incorporated into the main portion of the design, imparting a rich textural appearance to the surface. -from the Native American Art from the Permanent Collection catalog, 1979
