Commentary
Homeward Bound from Japanese Prisoner of War Camp: Pale and emaciated and in some cases diseased, these stretcher cases are brought aboard the U.S. Navy hospital ship Benevolence on August 29th. They were rescued by U.S. Navy mercy parties from Tokyo-area prison camps. These men are starting the first stretch of the journey home to health and happiness, September 6, 1945.
