Commentary
SNCC official Julian Bond at a press conference at the Drake Hotel in New York. Bond was refused his seat in the Georgia House of Representatives because of his stand against the Vietnam War. The poised young black legislator declared that the issue was not his views on Vietnam, but the right of his district to be represented without undergoing an attitude test by the Georgia House of Representatives. Julian Bond (1940-2015) became a Civil Rights activist while in college. In 1965, he was elected to Georgia's state legislature, but his opposition to the war in Vietnam meant that it would take a U.S. Supreme Court ruling for him to be allowed to take his seat. Bond later served as the head of the Southern Poverty Law Center and of the NAACP.

Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
