Warm Welcome for Morial: Ernest Morial (right) gets a warm handshake from State Senator John Schwegmann in Baton Rouge. Morial is the first black person to be elected to Louisianna's House of Representatives since Reconstruction. Morial was sworn in with a number of new legislators. Ernest Nathan Morial (1929-1989), known as Dutch Morial, was an American political figure and a leading Civil Rights advocate. He was the first black mayor of New Orleans, serving from 1978 to 1986.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
