Commentary
British advance to capture Meiktila Airfield Burma: By the shelter of a beached craft, a first aid station operates on the British 14th Army bridgehead across the Irrawaddy River in Burma. After crossing the Irrawaddy, the British staged a spectacular 85-mile dash, supported by American Air Commando fighters, to capture the Meiktila airstrip in what was termed the most significant Allied operation in Burma this year. This operation was the first successful junction of infantry and supplies, April 1945.

Technique
Ferrotyped prints are processed in such a way that they are shiny. The print has a sensitive surface, usually thinner, because it was put through a press while still wet.
Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
