Commentary
Happy Days: Mayor Andrew Young of Atlanta smiles just 17 short months ago at his Atlanta mayoral campaign headquarters as he listened to encouraging voter returns. On his right is Coretta Scott King, wife of slain Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., Atlanta.

Coretta Scott King (1927-2006) was an American author, activist and Civil Rights leader. She was the wife of Martin Luther King, Jr., and she helped lead the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. She took part in the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 and worked to pass the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Andrew Young (1932-present) is an American politician, diplomat, and activist. Young was an early leader in the Civil Rights Movement, serving as Executive Director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). He was a close confidant of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
