Commentary
"Now Up To Faubus": Governor Luther Hodges of North Carolina talks to newsmen outside the White House tonight after a conference with President Eisenhower and three other Southern governors. They reached agreement for the withdrawal of federal troops from Little Rock, Arkansas. The plan is contingent Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus giving formal notice that he will not obstruct Federal court orders for integration in Little Rock's Central High School and that he will maintain law and order in Little Rock.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
