Commentary
Booker T. Washington's Daughter at White House: President Eisenhower is in a serious mood as he chats with Mrs. Portia Washington Pitman, daughter of the famed black educator Booker T. Washington. She made a courtesy call at the White House yesterday. Mrs. Pitman is President of the Booker T. Washington Foundation.

Marks
On verso: International News Photos stamp and typewritten label with title and date affixed.

Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
