Commentary
Priest Answers Questions: William H. Dubay, 29, has been the center of a controversy since he wrote a letter to Pope Paul VI asking him to remove James Francis Cardinal McIntyre for alleged failure to take a stand on Civil Rights. Dubay talks to newsmen and supporters on the steps outside St. Albert the Great Church in Compton on Sunday. He had just finished celebrating mass for his predominantly-black congregation. William Henry DuBay (b. 1934) was a Catholic priest and activist whose activities and suspension from the priesthood created controversy in the mid-1960s. He published widely on Church reform, the rights of ethnic and sexual minorities, and plain language.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
