Commentary
"Company, Attention, Present Arms!" Everybody's doing it. Military training has taken the country by storm. The Plattsburgh idea is not copyrighted by the male contingent of this country, and the women are going in for military training. Here is a company of the American Women's League for Self Defense taking military instruction from regular Army officers. The picture shows the women soldiers drawn up in company formation, presenting arms. The women, as well as the business men's corps which is also taking instruction, are forced to use wooden dummy rifles, because Secretary of War Baker has ordered that no government rifles be issued to civilians, Governor's Island, New York.

Technique
Ferrotyped prints are processed in such a way that they are shiny. The print has a sensitive surface, usually thinner, because it was put through a press while still wet.

Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
