Commentary
Robenson with Stalin Peace Prize: Paul Robeson displays the bound citation and wears the gold medal that comprise the International Stalin Peace Prize that he was awarded in New York City today. The prize also includes $25,000. The award was announced last December on the late Soviet premier's 73rd birth anniversary. Among those attending the ceremony were at least five convicted Communist Party leaders. In accepting award, Robeson said, "I have been and always will be a firm friend of the Soviet nations".

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
