Commentary
Scenes of privation and suffering have been recorded in Czechoslovakian regions, where German occupation has pushed thousands of Czechs and anti-Nazi Germans out of home areas toward the central portion of the country. Czechs have charged that bands of Storm Troopers and Nazi civilians accompanying the military have conducted terrorist activities. Child refugees from Sudetenland sitting on straw in a barn near Labem Melnic, just within the new Czech frontier. They are awaiting transfer to the interior of Czechoslovakia, October 1938.
Technique
Ferrotyped prints are processed in such a way that they are shiny. The print has a sensitive surface, usually thinner, because it was put through a press while still wet.
Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
