Commentary
2,000 employees of the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp. in Hicksville gathered to celebrate their plant’s record breaking achievement in production. Vice Admiral Aubrey W. Fitch, Depot Chief of Naval Air Operations, addressed the gathering. He told them that “Your March output of 605 hellcat planes is a world’s record for monthly production of one type of airplane from one plant.” Here is a general view of the gathering, April 9, 1945.
Technique
Ferrotyped prints are processed in such a way that they are shiny. The print has a sensitive surface, usually thinner, because it was put through a press while still wet.
Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
