Commentary
This comparatively rare photograph shows King George VI of England, right, with General Montgomery of England. Montgomery's masterful leadership drove Axis forces from within striking distance of Alexandria, Egypt, all the way across Africa’s northern rim. The enemy was finally captured in Tunisia. The general, known for his careful planning, his colorful character and his eccentric personal habits, is easily identifiable by his famous dark beret, which he has worn throughout the campaign. The meeting took place at Montgomery's battle headquarters after the King returned from a visit to Malta, 1943.

Technique
Ferrotyped prints are processed in such a way that they are shiny. The print has a sensitive surface, usually thinner, because it was put through a press while still wet.
Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
