Commentary
After Voting Rights Victory: President Johnson, in obvious good humor, with Senate leaders Mike Mansfield (left) and Everett M. Dirksen, gives a V for victory sign in the Capitol this evening. The President left the White House to personally thank both the Democratic and Republican leaders who led the Administration's voting rights legislation to a 79-18 victory. In the rear is Senator Thurston Morton, who also voted for the bill.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
