Commentary
Schools In Jeff Integrate Quietly: Integration of Jefferson Parish public schools proceeded without incident today, as more than 51,000 children trooped to classes on the first day of the new academic year. Three pickets patrolled the area in front of the all-black Lincoln Senior High School in Marrero. They said they represented the school's Parent-Teachers Association, the Jefferson Parish Voters League, and the Marrero branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Marrero, Louisiana.

Marks
On verso: artist's credit stamp, date stamp and newspaper captions affixed.

Materials
Ferrotyped prints have a sensitive surface, usually shiny and thinner, because they are put through a press while still wet. Ferrotyping makes the surface of the photograph smoother. Light does not scatter as much on a smoother surface, so this increases contrast. That makes ferrotyped images better for press photography.
