Commentary
Praises Segregation Efforts: Excommunicated Roman Catholic and Plaquemines Parish political czar Leader Perez, Sr. (with tie on) brings down his fist to make a point. He gets applause from nearly 75 white adults who have been picketing Our Lady of Good Harbor Catholic School (in background). The pickets protested desegregation of the school. The five black students who integrated Wednesday remained away on Thursday and today. Perez arrived in Buras about an hour after the Reverend Christopher Schneider, Pastor, announced the closing of the school today, Buras, Louisiana.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
