Commentary
Passive Resistance: Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) demonstrators protesting the delay of a housing discrimination bill are dragged from the doorway of the California Senate chamber in Sacramento yesterday. They had lain down and refused to move. State police dragged about half a dozen aside, piling some on others, so the doors could be closed. Demonstrators waited until the Senate recessed for the day to block the doorway, but the senators left by other doors.

Materials
Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
