Attica Arraignments Security: a man identified as Ronald Coyne bows his head as he walks in leg irons into the Wyoming County Courthouse in Warsaw, New York. He is under the eye of a shotgun-armed state trooper and is followed by a state corrections officer. Coyne was indicted on charges of second degree kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and coercion. He is one of many indicted by a special grand jury investigating the 1971 Attica Prison riot.

Wire photographs were originally transmitted over phonelines, then later, by satellite. They were first used in the early 1920s. Associated Press became a leader with this. After pigment touch-ups, etc., the print is put into a drum (like a drum scanner). The image gets converted into audio tones that are transmitted. The tones are received and beamed onto photo-sensitive paper. Wire photographs are copies without originals---they are hybrid, transmitted objects.
